Morris Chestnut is back as Corey Cash for Season 4 of Hulu’s Reasonable Doubt, and as the exceptionally attractive attorney keeps his wedding on the back burner, his feelings for Jax Stewart are clearly not entirely in the past.

During a set visit with BOSSIP, Chestnut opened up about Corey’s evolving relationship with Jax, his adjustment to romance with fiancée Brandy, and whether Jax’s shocking shooting could reignite a connection that fans have been rooting for since his arrival.
While Corey has established himself as a formidable attorney, Season 4 finds him navigating unfamiliar territory in his relationship with Brandy. After hearing that Jax got shot, Corey dropped everything (including his fianceé’s spirits) as he rushed to be by Jax’s side. Brandy then surprised him and showed up in L.A., much to his chagrin, and their relationship has been strained ever since.
And while some fans are blasting Corey’s treatment of his fianceé, Chestnut is reminding viewers that he’s charting new territory.
“Corey, I can say that he’s getting adjusted to being in this relationship,” Chestnut told BOSSIP’s Managing Editor Dani Canada about Corey’s actions. “It’s not something that he’s done before like this, and so he’s adjusting to it.”
But as Corey attempts to settle into his new romantic chapter, his history with Jax remains difficult to ignore.
Following the shocking shooting of Jax, played by Emayatzy Corinealdi, Corey finds himself confronting emotions he thought he’d moved beyond.
Asked whether the traumatic incident could bring his old feelings back to the surface, Chestnut suggested that the bond between the two attorneys is too meaningful to simply disappear.
“I think that there’s such a strong respect that they have for each other that I think it’s hard for feelings not to come back,” he said.
But whether Corey acts on those emotions is another matter entirely.
“We’ll see if the maturity allows Corey to stay in his place with it,” Chestnut teased. “But yeah, I think the respect is so strong, it’s hard for it not to resurface.”
The possibility of a Corey and Jax reunion has remained a popular topic among viewers, particularly those who have questioned Jax’s decision to remain with her husband, Lewis, played by McKinley Freeman.

During the interview, BOSSIP shared a fan tweet suggesting Jax could have chosen Corey instead of Lewis, who had a baby outside of their marriage, prompting Chestnut to acknowledge the frustration some viewers have expressed about Jax’s marriage.
“You know, some people just have an issue with what happened with Lewis, with what he did,” Chestnut said.
However, he was also quick to recognize the strength of Jax and Lewis’ relationship.
“There’s some strong Black love there. It’s hard to penetrate that strong Black love.”
Corey Cash Wants To See Jax Win
Beyond their romantic history, Chestnut believes the foundation of Corey and Jax’s relationship is rooted in genuine admiration and professional respect.
That loyalty became particularly apparent last season when Corey warned Jax that her law firm was operating behind her back and considering replacing her with him.
According to Chestnut, Corey had wanted to share that information earlier but struggled with how to approach the situation without creating additional problems.
“Corey wanted to tell her even before then, but he didn’t want to kind of disrupt certain things that were going on with her there,” said Chestnut.
Once Jax created an opportunity for an honest conversation, however, Corey felt compelled to speak up.
“That goes into the respect that he has for her,” Chestnut continued. “He wants to see her win. He wants to help her win.”
That same compassion is what Chestnut believes makes Corey more than simply a successful, hard-nosed attorney.
Although he’s built a reputation for being formidable in the courtroom, Corey has also demonstrated a willingness to fight for vulnerable clients and confront his own mistakes.
Chestnut pointed to the character’s earlier storylines as evidence of his emotional growth, particularly his efforts to make amends for questionable decisions in his personal life.
“He had a chance to make amends for some things he had done in his past in Season 2,” Chestnut said. “There was a nice arc there. There was nice growth for Corey at the end.”
That growth has carried into his relationship with Brandy, although the actor acknowledged that Corey still has plenty to learn.
“Now he has to learn some stuff there as well,” he said. “It’s a constant learning. Life is a constant learning experience.”
Morris Chestnut Opens Up About His Viral Social Media Presence
Outside of Reasonable Doubt, Morris Chestnut has also been entertaining fans with his onslaught of hilarious social media videos.
While his online presence has become a source of amusement for followers, Chestnut credits his team with helping him embrace the platform.
“I’ve got a team that really hooks everything up for me,” he told BOSSIP. “They pull me out, they draw things out of me, and they really do help.”
The actor admitted that becoming more active online wasn’t something that came naturally.
“People have been trying to get me through social media for years, like for years,” he said. “But the team that I’m working with now, they just have a way of doing it because I’m a very kind of private person.”
Chestnut added that his team has mastered the art of transforming even the simplest moments into entertaining content, helping him connect with audiences in ways he hadn’t previously explored.
And while fans are certainly enjoying his social media antics, they’re also using those platforms to speculate about the increasingly unpredictable twists on Reasonable Doubt.
Morris Chestnut Says Even The Cast Doesn’t Know What’s Coming Next
As viewers continue to develop elaborate theories about the show’s mysteries, Chestnut revealed that the actors are sometimes just as surprised by the storylines as the audience.
The actor said he doesn’t typically receive direct messages from fans asking him to reveal spoilers, but even if he did, he wouldn’t share them–especially considering that there are times when he doesn’t even know the answers himself.
“Often, like right now, we don’t know,” he admitted, explaining that the show’s creative team sometimes keeps major developments under wraps. That’s one of the fun parts about doing this show,” he continued. “When we’re reading the script for the first time, we don’t know,” he added. “We don’t know where it’s going to go.”
He described the cast’s reactions to new scripts as a series of surprised exclamations whenever another unexpected development unfolds.
And when asked what warning label he would attach to Season 4, Chestnut compared the show’s provocative twists to the sensitive-content notices viewers sometimes encounter while scrolling through social media.
“Before you watch this show, you have to get consent. There’s always more to it.”
Reasonable Doubt Season 4 is streaming on Hulu.
