A brand-new horror is on the horizon, but unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until next year. Mike Flanagan and Jason Blum teamed up to introduce us to the next chapter in The Exorcist franchise. Titled The Exorcist: Martyrs, the film stars Scarlett Johansson and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The actors were seen on the New York City-based set earlier this year, and now that New York Comic-Con is approaching, fans will get a glimpse at the upcoming thriller.

The Exorcist is one of the horror genre’s most recognizable films of all time, with the franchise launching in 1973. The upcoming film is rumored to be Flanagan’s scariest production yet, as seen in the teaser trailer.

Tampascoop has compiled everything you need to know about the next Exorcist movie!

Who Is in The Exorcist: Martyrs Cast?

As previously mentioned, Johansson is in the cast, playing the role of NYPD homicide officer Detective Julie Miller. Flanagan explained her character in further detail during an interview with Esquire in October 2026.

“She’s a homicide detective with the NYPD and a single mother of a young boy named Max, who’s just turned 12 years old,” Flanagan noted. “Because being a homicide detective is one of those jobs that pulls you completely out of your life when you’re on call, you might not come home for days while you’re chasing a case. A lot of the slack is picked up by her own mother, Mary.”

The rest of the cast featuresEjiofor, Diane Lane, Jacobi Jupe, Laurence Fishburne, Sasha Calle and Kate Siegel, among several other stars.

What Is The Exorcist: Martyrs About?

Martyrs will delve deeper into our innate fears and the “problem of evil,” Flanagan told Esquire.

“There are so many things we see and say it’s inhuman,” the filmmaker pointed out. “That act, that behavior, that kind of crime, that kind of atrocity, it’s hard to believe it could be conceived of and committed by a human being.”

The film follows single mother cop Julie, who took down a satanic serial killer more than a decade prior and must investigate a new string of murders connected to her past, all while her son becomes the target of a demonic force.

When Does The Exorcist: Martyrs Come Out?

Universal Pictures set a release date of March 12, 2027, for The Exorcist: Martyrs.
