More than one million grill brushes have been recalled after frightening reports emerged of people accidentally swallowing the tool’s loose metal bristles.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the massive recall – which impacts nearly 1.75 million Cuisinart metal wire-bristle grill brushes sold since 2009 – after Conair received at least 54 reports of the bristles falling off and sticking to grill grates or food.

In three terrifying cases, people swallowed the metal pieces – and the patients needed medical attention to remove them.
The impacted models – all of which are baton-shaped with black plastic, stainless steel or wooden handles – pose an ingestion hazard and “risk of serious injuries that could require surgery,” the CPSC wrote in its recall notice.

People who own the recalled models – which run between $8 and $20 and were sold at retailers including Burlington, TJ Maxx, Ross and through Amazon and Cuisinart’s websites – should discard them and contact Conair for a refund, according to the notice.
Cuisinart didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
The crackdown effort was announced July 2 – just two days before Americans across the country are set to fire up their barbeques during Fourth of July festivities.
Holiday celebrations have already taken a hit as intense weather patterns are expected to slam several parts of the country this weekend — after sweltering temperatures this week.
Heat advisories and excessive heat warnings have been issued in three dozen states – with temperatures soaring into the high 90s and 100s and feeling over 100 degrees through the Independence Day weekend.
