CHICAGO — Tylor Megill’s next pitch in the main leagues probably won’t be until 2027.
The Mets right-hander underwent Tommy John surgical procedure Monday, according to supervisor Carlos Mendoza, and is expected to spend all of next season rehabbing.
Megill began 14 video games for the Mets this season and pitched to a 3.95 ERA before he was positioned on the injured record in June with irritation in the elbow.
Megill was shut down this month in his rehab because of discomfort.
Megill joined Frankie Montas, Griffin Canning, Danny Young and Dedniel Núñez among Mets pitchers to endure Tommy John surgical procedure this season.
In addition, Reed Garrett could be headed toward such surgical procedure following his shutdown with elbow irritation this month.
Megill has served as rotation depth for the Mets for most of the previous 5 seasons.
“We’ll miss him, especially when you are talking about the depth,” Mendoza said before the Mets’ 9-7 victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. “Our job is to get him back on the field as quick as possible.”

Tyrone Taylor was set for a full exercise before Tuesday’s recreation that would decide if he’s activated from the injured record on Wednesday.
The outfielder performed in two minor league rehab video games from Triple-A Syracuse over the weekend in his comeback from a strained left hamstring that has stored him on the IL for the previous three weeks.
Kodai Senga confronted hitters in stay batting observe in Port St. Lucie, Fla., throwing about 45 pitches.
Mendoza indicated he hadn’t reviewed the video on Senga’s outing or spoken to the right-hander.
Senga, who was optioned to the minor leagues on Sept. 5, began twice for Syracuse.
The Mets are attempting to decide if Senga could doubtlessly contribute to the roster if they attain the postseason.
Starling Marte (1-for-4) began in left subject with Brandon Nimmo (2-for-5, one homer, three RBIs) in middle, permitting Mendoza to get an further bat into the lineup with out transferring Jeff McNeil (1-for-4) from second base.
