Max Scherzer is coming back for a nineteenth season.
The three-time Cy Young Award winner has agreed to a deal to return to the Blue Jays, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed. Terms of the settlement are not clear.
Scherzer, 41, instructed The Athletic in January that he was “healthy and ready to sign at any moment if certain teams call” but was prepared to wait until Opening Day to make his choice.

The right-hander now heads back to Toronto, where he pitched last season.
Scherzer went 5-5 with a 5.19 ERA in 17 begins during the common season, but pitched properly over three begins in the postseason.
He memorably won Game 4 of the American League Championship Series — jawing on the mound with supervisor John Schneider — to keep in the recreation before finishing 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball.
The eight-time All-Star made two more appearances in the World Series, beginning Game 7. He went the first 4 1/3 frames, putting out three and holding a vaunted Dodgers lineup to just one run.
Scherzer made clear after the remaining recreation of the Fall Classic, which the Blue Jays lost in heartbreaking vogue, that he was not finished pitching.

“The only thing I can say is it’s going to take some time to give a full answer to that but there is no way that was my last pitch,” Scherzer instructed reporters. “That loss is so tough because you’re so close to everybody. This team had that closeness, had that camaraderie. We had that passion not only for the game but for each other.”
Toronto, in its efforts to get back to the World Series, has been energetic this offseason. It has added pitchers Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce and Tyler Rogers to bolster the rotation and bullpen.
