A new documentary about the life and legacy of Roberto Clemente premieres tonight.
“Clemente” comes to the History Channel from govt producers LeBron James and Richard Linklater, and director David Altrogge.
The doc follows Clemente’s life and profession on and off the baseball diamond, from rising up in Puerto Rico and early profession struggles with the Pittsburgh Pirates to turning into one of baseball’s most beloved gamers. It will also discover Clemente’s legacy in the aftermath of his tragic 1972 loss of life; Clemente died in a airplane crash while en route to ship support packages to Nicaragua following an earthquake.
‘Clemente’: what to know
In addition to photographs and footage of Clemente himself, all three of his sons — Roberto Clemente Jr., Luis Clemente, and Roberto Enrique Clemente — will be featured in the documentary. Puerto Rican actress Rita Moreno, sportscaster Bob Costas, musician Tom Morello, actor and lifelong Pirates fan Michael Keaton, and present New York Mets all-star Francisco Lindor will also seem in interviews.
