Cornell Young just gave the internet another reason to talk about him. The “A Different World” star and his twin brother turned heads this Halloween by dressing as Smoke and Stack, the dapper twin brothers from the hit film “Sinners,” and social media has been in a swoon ever since.
The costume choice made perfect sense. In Sinners, the twin characters are played by Michael B. Jordan, and the look became so popular that Spirit Halloween rolled out an officially licensed “Sinners” costume line this season. For Young and his real-life twin, the concept was a natural fit, and fans were quick to give the pair their flowers online.
The timing could not have been better for the 26-year-old actor, who plays Shaquille “Five Star” Johnson in Netflix’s “A Different World” reboot. His costume moment follows a week in which his love life was already the talk of the timeline. During a recent appearance on “The Shop,” Young revealed that he prefers dating older women, explaining that he often feels a “disconnect” with women his age or younger.
He credited his upbringing for the preference, saying he grew up around his grandparents, great-aunts and great-uncles, who taught him the importance of conversation and communication.
“We speak, we use words. You express yourself a certain type of way,” he said. “All the women I’ve ever dated have always been older than me.” Young said it comes down to a level of maturity. “This generation is so fixated on this and that. I’m not with that,” he added. “I like to go out and have a conversation and go do real life things.”
The comments set off a wave of reactions, according to TheShadeRoom, with women flooding the comments to shoot their shot and others calling the “aunties” to the front. Co-star Darryl M. Bell joked on the show that all the aunties would be hoping for a chance.
The story even came with a heartbreak origin. The actor recalled having his heart broken at just 11 years old after crushing on his sister’s friend, who returned from college with a boyfriend. “She broke my heart,” he said. Apparently, the experience never changed his type.
Cornell Young Sparked Dating Rumors With Co-Star
Young’s profile is rising quickly. “A Different World” premiered on September 24, quickly reached number one on Netflix, and has already been renewed for a second season. He also starred as Donovan in Tyler Perry’s Netflix film “Doing Life,” which premiered globally last month. That momentum has made every public moment worth watching, whether it’s a red carpet, a podcast appearance or a Halloween costume.
Of course, the conversation around Young wouldn’t be complete without the ongoing #YoungMoon rumors. Fans have speculated about a possible romance between Young and his co-star Maleah Joi Moon, who plays Deborah Wayne, after the pair were spotted together at a watch party in his hometown of St. Louis. Neither star has confirmed anything beyond friendship and a professional bond. When a fan recently asked if he was single, Young reportedly laughed and said, “I love my work.”
