It’s bittersweet for Armando Loyal, who’s been performing alongside elephants, Viola and Kelly, for years. He’s additionally their main caregiver.  

Loyal has a robust connection to them. He grew up in a household of circus performers and developed a love for elephants early on.

“I just have a passion for them,” Loyal stated. “You learn stuff with them every day, and you build a bond being with them that’s indescribable, almost.”

The choice to cease together with elephants within the Circus World present after this summer time season was made 5 years in the past.

Elephants stopped performing in touring circuses nationwide in 2016 over considerations about their moral remedy.

The director of Circus World, Scott O’Donnell, stated retiring Viola and Kelly is a well being determination. Each are nearing 50 years previous.
