Megan Thee Stallion and her hair stylist bestie Kellon Deryck are always giving the girls looks and lots of fun to boot. On Oct. 15, the Grammy-award winning rapper presented him with an InStyle Imagemaker award in Los Angeles.
Dressed in all-grey fitted gown with a sleek updo, Meg took to the stage to pay tribute to Deryck, noting that he has been more than just the architect of her hair moments, he’s also been a friend throughout “the worst times” of her life.
“Tonight is really special for me because I have the absolute pleasure of honoring Kellon Deryck,” she said to the room. “The world knows Kellon as an incredibly talented hairstylist, the hottest chocolate man on Instagram, but I’m blessed to call Kellon my best friend, my confidante, my hairstylist, my creative partner, my fellow foodie—we be hungry—my anchor who has been right by my side over the past several years, and at least I’ll know when everything is falling apart, my hair’s gonna look good.”
Together, Meg and Kellon have created some of Hollywood’s most celebrated hairstyles, blending the inspiration of Black culture with animé and down South glamour. But what they’ve done even more is create an unbreakable bond as friends.
In a touching IG post, Meg made it clear that Kellon is one of the dearest people in her life and that she believes her late mother sent him to her.
“My best friend deserves his flowers, and I’m giving them to him while he can smell them,” she wrote. “You’re handsome as hell and talented beyond words, but the most beautiful thing about you is your heart. You’ve been beside me through some of the worst moments of my life. When I didn’t have the words, you understood me. When I didn’t feel like myself, you loved me through it. I never have to question your loyalty or pretend I’m okay around you, and I hope you know how much that means to me! Sometimes I really believe my mama sent you to me. She knew I would need somebody who would look out for me, make me laugh, and remind me I still had so much to smile about. I wish I could tell her thank you for you.”
She continued,
“You deserve to be celebrated for your talent, your kindness, and the way you stay unapologetically YOU. I see how much you do and how much you give, even when nobody says thank you. I’m so proud of you, and I’ll never get tired of letting the world know it. I love you, best friendddd . You deserve all the love you give everybody else.”
For Kellon, the feeling is mutual. He credits Meg with being there for him and helping him to break out of his shell, both personally and professionally.
“I’m normally pretty shy when I first meet someone, so the first day we worked together, I was quiet; I was just there to do my job,” Deryck told Instyle. “She damn near tickled me into laughing and talking like, ‘Who is this up here? Who are you?’ She made me show my personality. She pulled it out of me. Even when we’re not on at work, we’re on FaceTime talking about what we’re about to do next or how our night was, what we ate, and what TikTok we’re about to do, and what food we want to try.”
Very happy Meg has had a real friend to walk through the fire with.
