Isaiah John, best known as Leon on FX’s Snowfall, joined The Morning Hustle for a candid conversation. He covered viral moments, career setbacks and a life-changing trip to Ghana. The talk opened with the viral scene, where Dara puts her bid in for Leon over Wanda. John broke down the messy love triangle. His advice to Leon was simple: stop playing with fire.

John also unpacked Leon’s inner pain. The character carries survivor’s remorse and still misses the family he built in the streets. That leaves him with “one foot in and one foot out” of the drug game. On craft, John said “Emotions are universal. Anger is anger. Sadness is sadness. What makes it different is what we attach to it.”.

Comparing Snowfall with The Drop, John pointed to differences in how each was filmed. He also noted the effort to bring in West Coast hip-hop artists for authenticity. He revealed a private passion for writing music as well. John spoke openly about his path. He once worked as a gym janitor for around $7.50 an hour. “During that time, I just made the best of it because I knew that it was temporary,” he said. He then went three years without booking a role. “I didn’t work between Snowfall and The Drop for three years,” he said, adding that the experience will “grow you and stretch you.”

He also addressed colorism claims on social media about Leon choosing Dara over Wanda. John explained that the choice reflects Leon’s attraction to dominance and boldness. The interview closed on a powerful note. Filming in Ghana and visiting the Door of No Return left a lasting mark on John. “This thing that we do is powerful,” he said. “You can really use this to impact.”
